If your account gets suspended, you are likely to think that it is gone for good. It isn’t. Not necessarily. Plenty of suspended and disabled Instagram accounts come back, and the people who get them back are usually the ones who did the boring things in the right order. This guide walks through how to recover a suspended Instagram account, what to submit, and what not to do while you wait.

Before You Appeal

How you recover a suspended Instagram account depends on what happened to it, so start there.

Restricted

A restricted account can still log in but is blocked from certain actions, such as posting, commenting, or going Live. These usually lift on their own. We cover the common ones in our posts on being banned from posting on Instagram and an Instagram Live ban.

Locked for security

If Instagram says it detected unusual activity and asks you to verify your identity, the account is locked, not disabled. Completing the verification is the fix. If you try too many times in a row, a lock can escalate, which we explain in what happens when an Instagram account is locked then banned.

Disabled

If you see a message saying the account has been disabled, you need to appeal. This is the situation the rest of this guide is about.

How to Recover a Suspended Instagram Account

Step 1: Appeal from the login screen

Log in with the disabled account and look for the review option on the notice, usually labelled Request Review. It opens a short form that asks for details such as your full name and email, and a reason you believe the account was disabled by mistake. Keep that reason factual and brief: your username, the date it was disabled, and a request for a human review. Do not write a long argument.

Step 2: Act inside the appeal window

When Instagram introduced this flow, the notice gave 30 days to appeal before the account was removed. Instagram doesn’t always show a window, so check the notice itself, and file as soon as you can. If the button isn’t there, it may mean the window has passed or the decision was final.

Step 3: Complete identity verification once, and do it properly

Instagram may ask for a video selfie or other proof that you are the account holder. Submit exactly what it asks for, in the format it asks for, using the same email and name that match the account. Several conflicting submissions can make the case look inconsistent.

Step 4: Use the Help Center only if the in-app option is missing

If the review option doesn’t appear, the Help Center has a form for disabled accounts. Don’t file through several routes at once. Sources disagree on whether repeat appeals help or simply reset your place in the queue, so pick one route and give it time.

Step 5: Wait, and check the right inbox

Meta doesn’t publish a guaranteed review time. Third-party estimates run from a day to a couple of weeks, but treat them as rough. Check the email tied to the account, including spam, and only trust messages that genuinely come from Instagram. Scammers send fake recovery emails to people in exactly this position.

Step 6: Consider Meta Verified as a backup, not a plan

Some people use a paid Meta Verified subscription to reach human support. Reports from the 2025 mass-ban period suggest results were mixed, so don’t rely on it, and don’t pay anyone who guarantees a recovery.

What Not to Do While You Wait

Don’t keep logging in and out, delete the app, or open a new account to get around the restriction while the original case is open. Don’t admit to violations you didn’t commit. Don’t pay a recovery service that contacts you first. And write down the dates of the suspension and your appeals in case you need to escalate.

If Your Appeal Is Rejected

A rejection doesn’t always mean the end, but it does mean the odds have dropped. Check whether the message says you can request another review. If the account was a business account, start protecting the business itself: an email list, a website, and a second channel mean one rejected appeal doesn’t end your ability to reach customers. We cover this in how to prevent your Instagram account from getting suspended.
